Amos Cox was from Dugspur, Va. He was a 1st Lt. in Co. G. 54th Va. infantry. Enlisted at Caroll County Court House on 9/16/1861 at age 40. Light complection, aulbern hair, 5'9", med. build.

Married to Susan Slusher. His grave is located at Cox Cemetery Dugspur,Va.

His military records indicate he was present at the following battles; Middle Creek Kentucky 1-10 1862; Chickamauga 9-19 and 20-1863 (Col. Trigg's brigade). Atlanta campaign 4-30-1864 to 7-1864 (Trigg's Regiment). Rocky Face Ridge, Ga. 5-9-1864, Dalton, Ga. 5-10-1864, Resaca, Ga. 5-1864, Cassvill Ga. 5-19-1864, New Hope Church, Ga. 5-25,26,27,-1864, Kennesaw Mt. Ga.6-19 to 7-3- 1864. Records show that the 54th. regiment was at Camp Hansenville, Virginia which is just outside of Abingdon, Virginia, on April 30,1862.

Amos wrote requestions for shovels, skillet lids, mess pans, rolled tents, camp kettles, axes and handles, picks and handles, blankets, knap-sacks, hava-sacks, quiers of paper, bottled ink, while camped at this location. Amos recieved a brevet promotion to Captain for a short period during the absence of George Turman.
