Greenberry Mabry

Greenberry Mabry was my mother's great uncle. He was said to have been the last living Confederate veteran in Carroll County Virginia (age 102 and a half) and one of the ten last in the entire state.
Greenberry enlisted in Co. G. on 10/16/63 at Missionary Ridge, Tenn.. He is listed on clothing reciept for 4/14/64.
He served till the end of the war.
Member and Decon of the New Hope Primitive Baptist Church, Carroll Co.
Occupation, farmer, blacksmith and wagon maker. Born in Carroll Co. in 9/14/45.
Attended the Gettysburg reunion in 1938.
Died at Dugspur, VA. on 3/17/1948, last survivor of the 54th., one of the last 10 CSA veterans in VA.
Buried in Green Berry Mabry cem. Carroll County.
Brother of Samuel and Absalom Mabry.
It seems Greenberry left the army when surrennder was pending in North Carolina and walked the short distance home. He reportedly saw Jefferson Davis riding south on a mule at that time after the last Confederate cabinet meeting at Danville, Va. A brother Samuel died in Georgia in the 54th.
