| HIRAM HINES ANDERSON. Hiram Hines Anderson (b. 12-19-1839 in Botetourt Co., VA, m. 9-16-1858 in Craig Co, VA, d. 8-29-1917 on his farm near Abbott, VA on upper Craig Creek in Craig Co., VA) was in the 54th Va Infantry Regiment at the start of the War of Northern Aggression. His obituary, that appeared in the Roanoke Times in 1917, lists him as being in the 54th, whereas, the "Sons of Craig" Confederacy Register of 1898 memorial plaque in New Castle, VA listed him as fighting with the 22nd Va Inf. Regt. Company H. Therefore, I think that evidence indicates that he spent most of his time with the 22nd. Company H 22nd Va Infantry Regiment (the "Kanawha Riflemen" company of sharpshooters) was commanded by George S. Patton (grandfather of Gen. Geo. Patton of WW2 ) and fought at Gettysburg, PA. So, it looks like he probably fired with and was fired on by some of your relatives. I grew up in the Craig and Roanoke Counties area of Virginia.
A grand-daughter and great-grand-daughter of Hiram Anderson's married relatives of Gen. George Custer (Jacob Custer was George's great-Uncle and his son, Joel Custer -- my G-G Grandfather on the Abbott side -- fought for the Union) that lived in the Craig County, VA area.
